MEN OUGHT TO PRAY
The
necessity of prayers in the life of a believer cannot be overemphasized. As
buttress from the scriptures, “Men ought to pray rather than faint”. Prayer is
an invocation or an act that seeks to activate a rapport with God. Thus, any believer
who seeks to succeed spiritually must be duly devoted to praying always. Prayer
can also be defined as the act of
communing with God. This definition is very critical in that it explains a
requited communication between man and God. This blatantly negates the idea
that prayer means talking to God; instead of talking to God as it were, you
talk with God. This denotes an atmosphere of friendliness and a true
representation of sincere relationship. Biblical examples of people who
communed with God are:
- ABRAHAM: Gen. 15:1-4, records, “1After these things, the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, fear not, Abram. I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward. 2 And Abram said, Lord God, what will thou give me seeing I go childless and thy steward of my house is the Eliezer of Damascus? 3 And Abram said, Behold to methon hast given me seed and lo, one born in my house is mine heir. 4 And, behold, the word of the Lord came unto him saying, this shall not be thine heir, but he that shall come forth out of thine even bowels shall be thine heir:The rapport between Abraham and God can also be found in Gen. 18:20-23.
- MOSES: Gen. 3:7, 11, records “7 And the Lord said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows; 11 And, Moses said unto God, who am I, that I should go unto pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?
- JOSHUA: Joshua 7:7,10 records “7 And, Joshua said, Alas, O Lord God wherefore thou at all brought this people over Jordan, to deliver us into the hand of the Ammonites, to destroy us? Would to God we had been content, and dwelt on the other side Jordan; 10 And, the Lord said unto Joshua, Get thee up: wherefore list thou thus upon thy face?
- ELIJAH: 1 kings 19:12, 13 records 12And, after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire and after the fire a still small voice. 13 And it was so, when Elijah heard it, …”
There
are plethora of examples of people who communed with God in the Bible days and
contemporary times.
For the purpose of this
piece, prayer can also be seen as Powerfully
Rendering All Your Earnest Request (PRAYER). ‘Powerfully’ in this sense does not necessarily
imply a physical force or strength but a spiritual enthusiasm. Prayer is a
sacred business. And as such should be done with all forms of sacredness.
Prayer should not be considered as a ritual of human habit. Prayer should come
from our soul and not from our head. Your heart plays an indisputable role in
your connectivity with divinity, (1 Sam. 1:13). As rightly proposed by Mahatma
Gandhia “In prayer, it is better to have a heart without words than words
without a heart”. Prayer is an outward expression of an inner reflection.
There is a need to
buttress on who a prayerful man is. A prayerful man is a man who is not a
stranger in the presence of God. This means that, the man must have reconciled
with God, i.e. having a good tenor with God. A prayerful man is a man, who stands
in the gap through prayers, to reconcile men to God, and transform spiritual
blessings into physical reality.
The importance of prayers cannot be over emphasized.
Prayers bring spiritual restoration, materialization of the manifold blessings
from God, financial uplift, unending joy, everlasting peace, total
deliverance/freedom from satanic oppression... Make prayer your lifestyle this
day and you shall be blessed.
Shalom!
